I’m a total junkie for online games for the iPhone / iPod Touch. I’m pretty addicted to iMob, iVampires and, now, Girl Wars.

Is it ridiculous? Yes! Do I care? No!!

If you’re a user of any of these games, add my code. I think it’s the same for all three: 142 833 444

You can also grow your teams by adding them to online sites like Girl Wars Codes. Have fun, and happy mobile gaming!

Spreading the Cashew Chicken Love March 11, 2009

Here’s an article that appeared this week in the New York Times about none other than Springfield’s cashew chicken. When I first moved up here my freshman year of college, one of the first things I learned about Springfield was it’s love for it’s “world famous” cashew chicken … and the fact that, as this article points out, nearly every single restaurant in town serves it.

Oddly enough, it was less than a year ago when I tried it for the first time. I now eat it pretty much at least once a week!

Check out the article in the Times:

Missouri Chinese: Two Cultures Claim This Chicken

Go little Springfield!

R.I.P. Socks February 20, 2009

If there’s one thing that can get me back to the ol’ blog after a long break, it’s news about a kitty. The top story on CNN this evening is news of Socks the Cat’s passing this morning. Socks Clinton was the 20ish-year-old kitty that served for 8 years as First Cat under the Clintons. I may not think much of Bill or Hillary Clinton’s political persuasions, but I do have a great deal of respect for Socks.

Here’s to you, little buddy!

Who Throws a Shoe, Honestly? December 15, 2008

Ridiculous, yes. But I couldn’t help myself.

And seriously, check out how deftly Bush dodges that thing. The way he pops back up, you’d think he was going to leap out over that podium and take out the shoe-throwing journalist with his bare hands.

Seriously Strange Searches December 7, 2008

It seems as though about 80% of the traffic that’s driven to the Peephole comes by way of searches for Nerf guns. I suppose that’s because I have two posts that mention the use of Nerf guns at work. Fair enough.

But some of the searches that land people hear just make me laugh.

Among some of my favorites:

  • “dance with me baby like its 1923″ - This searcher almost HAD to be trying to find out more about Derek James’ Smoky Light. Good search.
  • “gay peephole” - I’m not sure I want to know, but I’ve actually had two people get here with that search. Something tells me they didn’t find what they were looking for.
  • “dreaming about peepholes” - Seriously?
  • “republican idealogy” – Ahhh, there we go! That’s a good one!
  • “don henley one of these nights” - Another good one. I’ve had several folks stop by after searching for this.
  • “peephole naked women” - Again, I doubt they found what they were looking for.
  • “bootleg the eagles” – And I hope they DID find what they were looking for.

I have to admit, when I first started this blog, I certainly didn’t think about the various ways people would find it. Now that I know, I’m not sure I wanted to!

While I’ve lived in Missouri for nearly 7 years now, I still think of East Texas as home to me. I occasionally pull up the local newspaper from my hometown to see what’s going on down that way. I did that this morning, and nearly spewed my coffee across my desk with laughter.

The lead story today? A 13-foot alligator was hit by a truck and lay dead on the side of the road. The article was complete with a photo of the gator carcass suspended in the air.

“Not your average road kill” – The Lufkin Daily News

Oh, and after they got the alligator loaded up, they had to head on out to get a wild pig carcass from a nearby state highway. Only in East Texas …

I imagine my posts this week will focus heavily on the outcome of tomorrow’s election, so I thought it might be fun to post something a little more calm … you know, before the storm.

I spent the weekend in Tunica, Mississippi, which was a blast as always. After a day or so in the South, I always question why I ever left. I’ve always said that if I was going to live in a city, it would be Memphis. It’s got it’s rough patches, but it has such a unique personality.

At any rate, the 10-hour round trip drive through southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, western Tennessee and northern Mississippi made for some pretty spectacular scenery, so I snapped a few shots of sights along the way. Derick and I also went took a drive around Springfield to check out the fall colors, so I have a nice collection of pretty pictures from the past few days. Here are a few of my favorites:

I hate that fall brings in the impending doom of winter, but I sure do like the colors!
